Kyllä se kertoo ihan rakkauden lopusta. Niin suuren rakkauden, joka on verrattavissa uskontoon.

Minun mielestä tämä biisi kertoo laulajan oman seksuaalisuuden ymmärtämisestä. REMin laulajahan on homoseksuaali. Tässä biisissä hän kertoo tuntojaan, siitä kuinka hän luuli heteroseksuaalisuuden olevan ainoa normaali, mutta ymmärtää, että homoilukin on ihan normaalia miesten kesken.

Nyt oli kyllä aikamoiset vassarifantasiat sieltä. Stipe on koko nuoruus- ja aikuisikänsä tiennyt olevansa biseksuaali eikä suinkaan vasta vuonna 1991, jolloin LMR julkaistiin.

Googlasin ja löysin että kertoo yksipuolisesta rakkaudesta.

Muistaisin nähneeni joskus jonkun dokkarin, jossa sen selitettiin tarkoittavan "losing my temper", eli hermojen/pinnan palaminen, ei siis ole uskonnon kanssa tekemistä. Tällainen hämärä muistikuva minulla on. Se taisi olla joku sanonta jossain päin amerikkaa, tuo losing one's religion.

Minusta se kertoo pettymyksestä ja luovuttamisesta rakkaussuhteessa. Kumppani tuntuu ylivoimaiselta ja kylmältä, laulaja  tuntee hävinneensä taistelun.

The meaning of this song (officially, according to Mike Stipe of REM) is about unrequited love, meaning unreturned love. (the person recounting this song loves somebody, who has no interest in him).

It is quite a sad song, and a has a very lonely feeling to it.

Here he is trying to convince himself that the person he loves is NOT larger than life - she doesn't have to be the centre point of his existence. He is trying to push her out of his mind.

I can relate to this. Constantly following someone around, clinging to them, trying to make them connect with you or notice you.

Same thing really. "Losing my religion" is a southern American way of saying "reaching the end of one's rope" or "losing your temper" or "losing your civility". Basically these verses mean that he is getting angry and frustrated trying to stay ahead of the game and keep up with the competition over this woman. He's behind the game, in the spotlight, failng.

Here he pours his heart out to a greater extent. He obsesses over the person, constantly watching them - he can't think of anything else but this person, and he feels "lost" and "blinded" when not knowing what she's doing or who she's with. "He said too much" but he "hasn't said enough" - he's telling his mates and friends more than he should say about his feelings for this person, but not the person herself.

Buck said, "The verses are the kinds of things R.E.M. uses a lot, going from one minor to another, kind [of] like those 'Driver 8' chords. Ihan perseestä moinen tulkinta, mitä heeboja luulette olevanne. Älyttömän hieno biisi josta kukin voi nautiskella siten kuin se iskee. Erityisesti musikaalisesti todella tarttuva, kaunis ja visuaalinen jota ei tarvitse lähteä lokeroimaan  niinkuin ei biisejä yleensäkään. Tästä riittää kaikille, nauttikaa täysillä....
