Elon Musk spoke about Russian cyber attacks on Starlink
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's Starlink satellite network has been subjected to massive cyberattacks by Russia. Musk himself announced this .
Starlink has so far resisted attempts by Russian cyberattacks to silence and break it, but they are ramping up their efforts.
Russia did not comment on this statement in any way.
Earlier, Elon Musk provided Ukraine with Starlink terminals, after which the head of Roskosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, accused him of supplying fascist forces with military communications equipment. The head of the Russian state corporation threatened that the businessman would "respond in an adult way."
In March, Russia tried to block the operation of the Starlink terminals with electronic warfare, but SpaceX updated the software and the equipment worked again without interference.
In total, SpaceX, together with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), delivered about 5,000 Starlink terminals to Ukraine.
The problem affected not only Starlink. Reuters notes that the most affected points of the French satellite system KA-SAT Viasat. Her kits were also delivered to Ukraine.
The United States, United Kingdom, Canada and the European Union allege that constant hacking attempts have not stopped since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Modems that failed at the end of February had to be returned to the factory for repair. According to the source, the attacks on Viasat led to communication breaks throughout Europe, and not just on the territory of Ukraine.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that with the cyber attack on KA-SAT Viasat, Russia wanted to prevent Ukraine from commanding and coordinating troops during the invasion. In addition, Moscow hoped that the hacks would affect other European countries as well.
On May 9, the State Service for Special Communications of Ukraine reported that Russian hackers carried out a massive DDoS attack on the websites of the leading telecommunications companies in Ukraine, but did not achieve significant success.
Meanwhile, on May 9, a Russian video hosting site, Rutube, crashed as a result of a hacker attack. The Anonymous group took responsibility for this. The service has been unavailable for the second day. Some media wrote about its complete destruction. In the company itself, the impossibility of recovery is denied.
