Arthur täytti kesäkuussa 40 vuotta ja Garbiñe pari päivää sitten 31 vuotta. Naimisiin menivät kolmen vuoden seurustelun jälkeen.

- Did everything at the wedding go as you had imagined?

Everything went superbly, the weather was nice, the catering was great, the service, the drinks, the guests, the place was as I expected, the decoration, the band, because what I was most excited about was being able to dance to the rhythm of Latin music, with all my friends and loved ones. - What did Arthur say to you when you met at the altar?

- What was it like when you opened the dance? Had you rehearsed?

We had rehearsed the song More than a woman by the Bee Gees. The thing is that when we played it live we got a little confused with the steps, but in the end what does it matter? It was a way to open and start the dance and it was great.

- You were particularly excited about the music. Did you dance like there was no tomorrow?

I danced a lot. I think I danced the most, because I was there from the first song to the last. I only took a break after a couple of songs because my feet hurt a little and I was thirsty. I love dancing and I danced as much as I could. And after the Latin band, a DJ came in to give it a little more energy with another style of music. So yes, my expectations were met.

- Who would have told you, three years ago, how a casual walk through New York would change your life!

- Are you going on your honeymoon?

There are a lot of things going on now, trips, tournaments, and it will be difficult to go on a honeymoon, we have left it for next year.

- But will you at least take a few days off in Marbella?

Yes, we will take a few days off, as our life is very busy. But I will tell you about the super trip we have planned for next year, because we want to do something very special.

- How have these past few months been since you announced your retirement?

It's been a very nice time, very peaceful, and I've been able to do a lot of things. I'm also very involved with tennis and a lot of opportunities have come up. I announced my retirement after playing tennis for a lifetime, and I said, "What now?" But I was surprised by how quickly the offers for different things came in. No, nämä olivat hyvin pienet julkkishäät, vain 90 vierasta, hääparin sukulaiset ja lähimmät ystävät. Ei juurikaan muita julkkiksia kuin Garbinen entinen valmentaja Conchita Martinez, Wimbledonin tennisturnauksen voittaja 1994. Ja ne pidettiin samassa paikassa kuin ruotsalaistähti Pernilla Wahlgrenin toiset häät Christian Bauerin kanssa muutama viikko sitten.

Sinä voit itse pitää just sellaiset häät kuin haluat. Aika normi häiltä nuo näyttää, toki koristeluihin on satsattu enemmän mikä on ihan ymmärrettävää kun ei ole pikkurahasta puutetta. Tosi kivannäköiset häät, esim perinteinen mansikkakermakakku ei tosiaankaan ole mitään ökyilyä, vaan aika symppis yksityiskohta. 

Minusta tällä naisella ei ole yhtään kauniit kasvot. Iso nenä ja ulkonurkista roikkuvat silmät. Mutta omalla tavallaan toki tyylikäs.

Kiirakin oli Arthuria nuorempi, samoin on tämä uusi Garbiñe. Molemmilla naisilla on ollut urheilu-ura takanaan, ei paljon seurustelukokemusta. Onko tämä Arthur omistushaluinen vai miksi haluaa nuorempia ja kokomattomampia naisia?
