"Olen osannut" englanniksi?

There is no need to add unnecessary complexity into everything when speaking English. You would never say anything like that in Finnish so it is not necessary in English either. It's just adding confusion especially if the person who you're speaking to is not fluent in English.

I used to know how to xxx but then I got into accident and got a bad brain damage. That's why I'm not able to do it anymore.

Not needed if youre not some kind of nitpicker. Those articles are very often omitted even by the English people themselves so they will understand the message perfectly.

Onko osattu jotain vain joskus menneisyydessä vai osataanko edelleen? Englannissa perfektimuodossa (I've been able to) asia jatkuu edelleen, mutta suomessa saatetaan käyttää perfektiä (olen osannut), vaikka se olisi tapahtunut kokonaan menneisyydessä. Jos ei osata enää, niin ei voi käyttää englannissa perfektiä, vaan esim. "I was able to".

Vai olenko ehkä kuitenkin väärässä? Rupesin miettimään. Englanniksihan voi sanoa vaikka "I've been to Norway", vaikka ei olisikaan siellä enää. Vai voiko? - 39
