Meghan is hardly short of cash, with a fortune estimated at £5 million, and in her former life as an actress, many hundreds of garments will have been gifted to her by fawning designers.

But it's against royal protocol to accept freebies, and these days her official wardrobe will be paid for from the same pot as William, Kate and Harry's: Prince Charles's Duchy of Cornwall estate. Last year, it earned £22.5 million, with the young Royals spending around £3.4 million of this on salaries, office costs and other business-related expenses.

That's not to say Meghan isn't making a contribution. Royal insiders suspect she may also be borrowing garments for special occasions.

And some of the bills may be footed by her generous husband. Harry has an estimated £30 million in the bank, including £10 million inherited from his late mother, £324,000 a year in investment profits from Diana's estate and savings from his Army salary.
