Jet crash at Phuket airport ¿ deaths reported

Reports are coming in that over 100 people may have died in the crash of a One-Two-Go Airlines jet at Phuket International Airport, with approximately 20 survivors badly injured.



It is thought that the jet was attempting to land for the second time when the crash happened. The bad weather appears to have contributed to the crash as the jet skidded off the runway into surrounding trees where it broke in two on impact and burst into flames.



The jet was on a scheduled flight which departed Bangkok' s Don Muang Airport at 14:30 and was scheduled to arrive at 15:50.



A passenger on an earlier TG flight who touched at Phuket International Airport approximately 30 minutes before the ill-fated One-Two-Go flight told the Phuket Post: ¿There was a lot of turbulence all the way from Bangkok, but as we got closer to Phuket it got much worse. The clouds were so dark it felt almost like flying at night. It was only when we came out the bottom of the clouds, just before landing, did the turbulence stop. Thankfully our landing was smooth.¿



Airport officials state that the injured are being taken to Thalang Hospital. Wachira Hospital in Phuket Town is also on high alert with people close to the situation reporting a lot of activity in the area including ambulances and helicopter departures.
