ROLE REVERSAL: THE GROWING NUMBER OF DIVORCE CASES WHERE WOMEN EARN MORE THAN MEN 

A leading law firm has reported a three-fold increase in the numbers of divorce cases where the wife earns more than the husband. 

The situation can then complicate divorces, with both partners feeling like they've been unfairly treated.

Solicitors at Slater and Gordon said in 2012 that the trend is leading many women to feel they are getting a bad deal when assets are split.

Fiona Wood, a family law specialist at the firm, said: 'The traditional image of the family is that the wife and mother either doesn’t work or doesn’t work very much and is at home looking after the children.

'There are some complete reverses of that.

There are a lot more where the husband is working but he might not be earning the sort of money that the wife is, perhaps without the same pressure or the hours as the wife.

'[The wives] feel quite aggrieved that they have been doing "two jobs" yet they have not got any credit for it.'
