Hi. I wonder if anyone in here know how the reserve list in University of Helsinki works. I am 8th in the reserve list for Economics and I wanted to know if I have a chance to get a study place.
Last year statistics in this particular field says. 251 applicants, 51 were accepted, 34 is maximum intake, but at the end 19 were the new students. Does this mean some people from the reserve list also got the places?

Yeah, that is what the reserve list is for.
Many people apply to multiple universities, but can only take a place in one.
I don't think Economics in University of Helsinki is a top priority place for many (most would rather go to Aalto) so you might have a chance to get in even from eight place. Hard to say.
Not everyone accepts the offered place so I assume most of the reserves who wanted in got accepted too if they had 34 places and 19 started.
However, I do not know how the master selection process works in HY.

Your headline is in finnish and you are writing your question in a place that has nothing to do with HY or even anyone speaking english. Strange.

Kind mr/ms/whatever, this place does not require authentication to write so it is naturally full of trolls. Don't mind them. Anyway you would get better quality discussion elsewhere probably. Most chains do get filled with spam about "persut" or "vasurit" or whatever quite fast. Asking in reddit /r/suomi might be better idea for example. Or some HY discussion board, if they have one in telegram or elsewhere.

Yeah I have noticed :D Thanks though at least some people had replied more sensibly.
You might get in but might not, depends on how many people accept their school place.
I have been on varasija 2 two times to AMK and did not get in.

If there is 34 places and 51 taken it means overtake. There have been tie points for overtaken students.
If so you can be accepted from your reserve rank only if more than 25 won't accept their places.
Tie point situation handling should be in Opintopolku description.
