Another human death of bird flu in Azerbaijan



Two people from the Musayevs family, IDPs from Kelbajar District of Azerbaijan, temporarily living in the village of Baim Saryh (Terter District) died on the same day. By the way, at least one of them died presumably of bird flu, Azeri ANS TV-channel reports.



According to Head of the Central Hospital of Terter District Makhabat Pashayeva, 24-year-old Tugan Musayev turned to doctor on February 26. Since April 2004, he had been listed as tubercular patient, Musayev died by his relatives who managed to bring him only to the yard of the Lung Illnesses Research Institute in Baku on March 3. On March 4, Khayalya Musayeva turned to hospital, and doctors found symptoms of bird flu by her. The patient was sent to the Lung Illnesses Research Institute in Baku and died there four days after.



When a REGNUM correspondent asked the institute officials why the death had been kept secret from society for so long, the answer was that the bird flu diagnosis was a provisional one and ¿can be announced only after laboratory tests results are received.¿ Meanwhile, residents of the village where the two dead persons lived informed that only two days after Musayeva¿s death disinfection works have been started. It also became known that most villagers do not slaughter poultry, because they are still waiting until the Azerbaijani government determines the sums of compensation for the poultry.
