19-year-old Katerina Tikhomirova goes to Moscow and lives in a hostel with her friends, Lyudmila and Antonina. At a party in their professor's house, where Katerina and Lyudmila temporarily live, Katerina meets an operator named Rodion. When shooting at the factory Rodion learns that the girls is not a professor's daughter, but a worker and he leaves her despite the fact that she is pregnant. In 20 years the lives of the main characters change greatly: Lyudmila is devorsed, Antonina is a happy wife, and Katerina becomes the director of an integrated works. Her daughter is a student and has a boyfriend, and happiness does not come easily, but they overcome their trials. Katerina is a woman whose dreams came true.
