What are you planning to do with your family and children today? What happens in your area?



My husband left for the shopping centra and I don't like it because next week were are travelling abroad and we had decided not to buy anything here before that here. He surely will find something to buy...



He just bought new boots from the shop "Boots Factory" in Helsinki and those boots cost more than 200 euros. The problem is that they do not fit his feet. I am really angry, because Boots Factory sew boots personally suitable for every feet according to persons measures (could you understand what I tried to say here????). Now he came back and he bought a new bag and some stockings...that is ok!!!



Now I have to start cooking for some friends that just phoned and are coming to visit us...I hate this...suddenly such a hurry...

Does somebody know when the summer sales will start in Helsinki and Stockholm? What about Tallinn - do they have summer sales there too in the same way as we have sales here in Helsinki and in Stockholm?

Young people today have studied English in(?) so many years so I cannot understand why is it so difficult to say something?



When I went to school the English they taught us was different. It was not everyday language. The target was that we could use English when we studied at universities etc. We didn't listen to people talking and we didn't discuss. We just translated text from English to Finnish and from Finnish to English. And in those days we could not hear English spoken in TV everyday.



Life has changed and all young people study English a lot and hear it everywhere. So why is it so difficult to smalltalk and discuss about anything in English?

We may discuss about some specific subject, that is no problem. Language is just a tool, it is not so important itself.

It is not so easy to speak foreign language even if you have studied it for years and hear it from TV shows, you still lack the everyday using experience. That's why it's good to spend some time in that language culture so you are able to start "thinking" with that language also.

And unfortunately, if you don't use language every day, you start getting clumsier when speaking etc.

in long run the temperature will even out, as always. i remember one midsummer in mikkeli when it was snowing in '80s.

I was in Mikkeli as well. At least it snowed on the 16th of June, I had jokingly said so two weeks before, and it did snowed. I was a weather prophet after that:-)

Does anyone know what has the famous finnish weather profet "Mr. Frogman" said about weather of this summer? ;)

I get nothing done, though this would be just a perfect day to clean this house, now that it is too cold for all the outdoor activities...

Why can't you chat bull-shit in finnish?

If I am honest I am very bored now and I have a very boring life. And I am not able to help it and nothing helps...Yesterday I was far away and in fact I would like to travel again and be on my way somewhere all the time...I would like to escape my life and my bad health...and in our family everybady is sick and yesterday I heard that my brother, too, his wife and daughter are sick, and everybady is doing too badly economically even if they are well educated...



Somebody said that you forget the language, if you don't use it. Let's start using English here...And it is surely true that one should live in English speaking countries in order to start thinking in that language...



Somebody told me one day, that there is a lot of people who study and know English, but that English is spoken in so many ways nowadays that nobody wants to teach English in the future, because the task of teaching is becoming too difficult.

so what's wrong having this one in english?

I think this chat is great! Though the weather is crappy, as it is, its still summer, and I´m going to take the most out of it! There are so many interesting happenings all around, and I´m planning to participate, and take my kids to do some new and fun things. For example, on Senaatintori there is "värikylpy" for all ages, and the best thing, you can take the drawing home with you, as a memory! Wishing all of you positive, happy and inspiring w.end!

First of all, I would like to wish you, and your family a prompt recovery. I cannot imagine, how hard it is for you now, but I trully, really and deeply, wish you all the very best. Second of all, it helps to think positive. Seriously. As silly, as it sounds, the power of a positive thought is enormous! Try to think of things in your life, that you are at least a little bit happy about. Like that trip you made not long ago. Start dreaming and thinking of your future trips, and the positive thoughts will bring warmth to your heart. The more positive thoughts, the more positive things will come your way. I am a true believer in the power of positive thinking, and hope that you will at least try it. You wont lose anything, thats for sure. My very best wishes once again!
