I work in pharma business. all of our suppliers are from Europe. good right? except the API of our suppliers supplier. turns out nobody on the world do pharma APIs apart from China. every single products core part is from China. if we stop buying from China, then the whole world will run out of all kinds of pharmacutical products soon.

A substantial share of all generic drugs we import comes from China, including a staggering 93 percent of all imported ibuprofen. And focusing on direct trade between China and the United States actually understates our reliance, because most of the active ingredients in drugs imported to us from countries like India also come from Chinese superlabs
