From Bob Dylan to Beethoven, Princess Diana's eclectic childhood record collection goes under the hammer

Princess Diana clearly had an eclectic taste in music judging by her childhood record collection

Princess Diana's eclectic taste in music has been revealed with the emergence of her childhood record collection.

Vinyls featuring classical composers such as Mozart and Beethoven are interspersed with albums from U.S. rockers the Eagles and Bob Dylan.

The set of 19 LPs have gone on sale via an online auction site PFC auctions, which is based in Guernsey.

They were originally bought at a car boot sale for just £6 eight years ago, but now they have been listed with a reserve price of £250.

Although there are currently no bidders, it is expected that the records will fetch several thousands, when the sale closes on May 24.

All covers are personally signed by the late princess so she could prove to other members of her family they belonged to her as a youngster.

At the time veteran DJ Paul Gambaccini, who was hired to catalogue Diana's childhood record collection after her death, said: 'The records would fit very snugly into the collection I saw at St James' Palace.

'It was custom for the Spencer children to put first names on records to make it clear which record belonged to which child.'

In 2002, Prince William reclaimed several of his mother’s albums after they were allegedly stolen.

Two years later, 19 records were sold at a car-boot sale which raised money for the Princess Trust and the North West Cancer Research Fund in Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire, to a mystery buyer.

The collection - which includes her favourite, the soundtrack to Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 film Romeo and Juliet - is being sold online by PFC auctions, which is also selling a slice of William and Kate’s wedding cake.

Next month, an exhibition of Princess Diana memorabilia is to go on display near Los Angeles on board the historic Queen Mary ship.
