Windows on kuitenkin täynnä index.dat tiedostoja, joihin kertyy tietoa surffailusta. Suurin osa niistä on piilotettu, eikä tyhjene normaali tyhjentämisellä. Osaava taho voi tutkia niitä tarvittaessa.

Asennat ohjelmat, valitse " File" ja " find index.dat files" ja klikkaa haluamaasi index.dat riviä tummemmaksi ja valitse ok. Aukeaa pikku ikkuna, jossa näkyy se mikä näkyy.

Entisiä surffaustietoja sisältävät Index.dat tiedostot paisuvat ajan myötä ja koska IE selaa niitä aina aukaistessa, tämä voi hidastaa konetta.

You cannot delete the index.dat files manually because Windows locks them.
