The first step to prepare your dog, cat or ferret to enter Estonia is to have your pet microchipped with an ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15 digit pet microchip.

If your pet currently has a microchip that is not ISO 11784/11785 compliant, then you have 3 choices:

You can bring your own microchip scanner.

You can contact the officials at the Border Inspection Post where you will enter the EU and inquire as to whether they have scanners that can read your pet's chip.

If your pet's current microchip can still be read, your veterinarian can implant compliant chip. The number and implant dates of both microchips must be documented on the EU Health Certificate (see step #5).

A tattoo is an acceptable form of identification as long as it was given prior to July 3, 2011, is clearly visible and your pet was vaccinated for rabies after the tattoo was applied

Entry Requirements

In order to travel with your pet to Estonia, you will need to complete the following requirements.

Your pet must be identifiable via a microchip. The microchip needs to be implanted before the pet receives their rabies vaccination. If your pet already has been vaccinated before implantation, the vaccination becomes invalid and will need to be administered again.

Pets must be at least 105 days old and must be vaccinated against rabies. You will need to wait 21 days after the vaccination is given to travel to Estonia (the first day is considered Day 0).

You will need to obtain a health certificate from a USDA authorized veterinarian (if traveling from the US). The health certificate needs to show proof of the rabies vaccination. Also part of the health certificate is a written statement of the owner or person accompanying the animals, that the animals are not subject to movement that has the purpose of sale or transfer of those goods.

There should be a document stating that the animal arrived, either directly or through Estonia from a third country listed in the health certificate.

Be sure to check with the Veterinary & Food Board for more information reqarding the required ports of entry and restricted breeds.
