I worked for 20 years in the locals school district in another city from Newport News. The student behavior has been out of control since I started in the early 2000. There are no consequences for the students who misbehave and keep others from learning in class. The teacher has to constantly stop class and discipline and reprimand students who are acting out. There are many students who do not belong in a regular classroom and are keeping the classroom from having the ability to learn and have a stable quiet environment. I have written hundreds of referrals over the last 20 years only for them to get a slap on the wrist and sit back to class. The administrators do not want to suspend the students or reprimand them or get a plan in place that works to stop the acting out and misbehavior. The responsibility needs to fall on the parents as well. They should be made to come to class and sit with their child. Or they should be given warnings and then charged with a misdemeanor if their kid continues to act out and misbehave in class. Or find another method that works because everything else people are trying is not working and there needs to be some ownership where a parent takes responsibility for what their child does in class and if they don't then there are consequences. As well the administrators need to quit turning a blind eye to the students who keep acting out and misbehaving in class and in the school. I have been sick and tired of dealing with misbehaving students who are continually disrupting class. I left 3 years ago due to health reasons but will not be going back into a school environment ever again.
