That soldier who peirced Jesus's side is St. Longinus. He was suffering from eye sight loss and when the water and blood of Jesus splashed in his eyes his eyes got better. He became a Christian, left the Army and preached the gospel. He had his tongue cut out for preaching the gospel but kept preaching until he was martyred.
